|The Undergraduate Programme (Bachelor of Science, B.S.) in Environmental and Land Engineering aims at training qualified technicians with both a solid background in basic engineering (mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.) and a deep knowledge of environmental phenomena and processes, with a particular attention to the interactions between man and environment.
The specific education goals aim at providing the graduate in Environmental Engineering with knowledge and understanding related to particular areas:
effects and mitigation techniques of human impact on water bodies as well as management of solid wastes;
geotechnical works and structures-soil interactions;
integration into land planning of topics related to sustainable development;
site characterization and analysis and prevention of hydrogeological damage;
risk evaluation for the occupational safety and health.
Occupational and professional opportunities for the graduates
The main occupational prospects for the Environmental Engineering graduate are: companies, public and private institutions, consulting for the design, planning, implementation and operation of works and systems for environmental control and monitoring, for soil protection, for the management of waste and environmental, geological and energetic resources, as well as for evaluating environmental impacts of plans and projects, with the construction and application of information systems.
The prosecution of the studies in the Master Degree in Environmental and Land Engineering (M.S.) will allow the student to get an advanced scientific and professional education with specific engineering abilities in its peculiar multidisciplinary areas, through a wide common part in which the most important knowledges for the expected professional profile will be strengthened.
Specifically, after delving aspects of mathematical modelling, the educational activities aim at providing the student with a deep knowledge of methods for soil investigation and for monitoring of polluted areas, of technologies for contaminated sites reclamation, as well as of modelling aspects relevant to environmental processes and phenomena particularly referring to surface and ground water. Moreover a qualification on the information systems technology will be given, being an absolutely necessary tool for an engineer dealing with the environment.
The student may then deepen specific focus areas by choosing one of the 2 different study lines foreseen: Environmental Remediation Technologies, Geoengineering and Land protection, Spatial and Environmental Planning.
